Also known as Chinese Leeks, garlic chives impart an oniony flavour with a distinct garlic tone but less pungent. They have green, flat and wide leaves and each stem has a small, inedible white bulb at the base with white star-shaped flowers at the top that are edible and bloom in the spring.
Storage and Uses
Garlic chives will keep for a few days when stored in a plastic bag in the refrigerator.
Garlic chives can be used in both raw and cooked applications. They can be used in stir-fry, tempura, stuffed into dumplings, and used in egg dishes.The tenderness of the young leaves work well in soups, marinades and Asian cooking. Garlic chives can also be minced and used in meat, poultry, or seafood dishes and used to flavour vinegar and dipping sauces. 
Garlic chives are rich in vitamin C, and contain carotene, vitamin B1 and B2, calcium, and Iron. They improve bone and heart health. The high amount of antioxidants and flavonoids help protect against cancers in the breast, colon, prostate, ovaries, endometrium and lungs.
Chives also contain carotenes, zeaxanthin and lutein, which help protect against lung and oral cancers.
